Zin City 2012 Zinfandel

The grapes for this vibrant and inviting Zinfandel come exclusively from top vineyards in the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys—two of Sonoma County’s top Zinfandel appellations! To add just the right subtle hint of oak and spice, our Zin City Zinfandel was fermented in open-top tanks as whole berries and was aged in seasoned French oak barrels, including larger-format 500-liter oak puncheons.

Attack of the big, bold Zin!  This is a wine that needs food; meaty, savoury, juicy meat would be great like a salted and grilled BBQ steak or if you happen to be at a Brazilian steakhouse and see this on the menu - order it!  I wouldn't say it's my favorite Zin, it's pretty prickly at first and I could immediatly sense a next-day headache.  I put it in the fridge, as I do with most reds that I'm not sure about, and had it again 2 days later.  Much softer, more tolerable when chilled.  Happened to pair it with a dish that had a side of pickles (gourmet over here) and the salty pickles really brought out the fruit in the wine and reminded me of my favorite Pinot Noir, believe it or not.  Would I buy this wine again?  Only on sale, and probably to give to someone else.
