Matsu 2009 El Recio

This wine is un-filtered which contributes to the flavour. It is deep and profound in colour, an expression of its young age. It has an intense aroma in which one can find dark fruits such as blackberries and blueberries, mineral notes also appear, creating this fresh wine with complexity and deep cedar notes. The Recio is much more mature version of the Picaro. The Recio has seen 14 months in French barriques and the fruit is sourced from vines that are more than 100 years old. This depth of character is apparent as the wine enters the palate. The tannin is assertive and up front with its presence, easily melding in with a deep mid palate and firm acid structure. This wine is thoroughly integrated and showing loads of cherry, cedar, tobacco and hints of scorched earth. The finish lingers on and on. A big and deep wine that will tell you stories you have never heard!
