Los Vascos Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Los Vascos’ Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes purchased on long term contracts with growers in the Casablanca Valley. The vintages all offer very pure fruit and a lively, refreshing palate. This wine has remarkable aromatic expression in the bouquet with lemon, grapefruit and exotic fruit enhanced by the characteristic boxwood aroma of the Sauvignon.Pale yellow colour with glints of green. The nose offers aromas of fresh pineapple, pear, green apple and honeydew melon combined with citrus notes of grapefruit and lime, and hints of tarragon and thyme. The palate has exceptionally well- balanced acidity, with a pleasant coating sensation and good persistence. Decant and serve chilled between 10 and 12ºC.

I never go back for seconds when it comes to Chilean or New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I can barely psych myself up to go in for firsts!  But this wine (and Justin Beiber) taught me to "never say never."

There's such an obvious French influence here (being that it's owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite) that I don't get any of the bell pepper, jalepeno pepper or intense grassy notes that I expect from South American Sauvignon Blanc. It's all mineral all day. Lime rind, grapefruit, pineapple, mineral and refreshing acidity. Plus a great price at under $20.
