Santos da Casa Reserva 2011 Douro DOC

It's immediately appealing with strong colour and a moderate concentration. First impression is immediately fruity, rich and sophisticated. Ripe wild fruit, black and red wild berries, floral suggestion. These flavours are wrapped in a refined work from the barrel - toasted suggestions, some spices and fresh balsam - composing an impressive set, rich and complex. Impressive structure in the mouth with ample, solid and textured tannins without losing freshness. A combination of volume and quality from the fruit. It's long, rich and persistent in a right proportion.

Based on the tasting notes I was expecting a bold fruit forward wine. I found this wine to be very subtle and better as an after supper supper as it tended to be overpowered by food. If was good, but not spectacular.

Quite tasty! My palette is maybe stinky? I did not get this level of fruit as described in the outline. Wonderful nonetheless. -Travis
