M. Chapoutier Les Vignes de Bila-Haut 2014

The colour is garnet-red, very steady, deep and brilliant with purple lights. On the nose it is open, expressive and complex with aromas of very ripe black fruits (elderberry, blackberry), some spicy scents (pepper, Garrigue). On the palate, great attack, tight but silky tannins. One notices a dominance of spicy scents, a lot of richness, a good length and a very ethereal final.

Besides this wine bottle being incredibly cool because M.Chapoutier is probably the only winemaker who puts braille on his bottles (yes braille, you can read the article here on Just WIne). The wine was delicious. I decanted the wine for about an hour which really enhanced the black fruit aromas. The smooth and silky tannins from the Grenache balanced with the tanginess of the Carignan and spicy Syrah. Just a really nice and enjoyable blend that went well with all parts of dinner from soup through to the chicken to the fruit for dessert.
