Luca Winery 2014 Malbec

This is a great example of Mendoza Malbec. Incredible color—could use it in an inkwell! Loads of spice and black cherry cola aromas with notes of cocoa. The berry flavors really pop on the palate as the wine has both good depth and very lively acidity that leads to an incredibly long finish. A bottom note of freshly brewed espresso keeps the mouth watering too. Pairs well with foods such as venison or wild game, steak, pork, quail, all types of lamb, and medium-strong cheeses. A very flexible wine due to its concentration and balance. Pair with: venison or wild game, steak, pork, quail, all types of lamb, and medium-strong cheeses.

4 out of 5 starsReviewed on July 24, 2017

Vinous / Antonio Galloni: "Saturated medium ruby. Brooding aromas of blackberry, licorice and bitter chocolate, plus a minty nuance. Juicy black fruit, espresso and spice flavors are complemented by sexy oak tones and lifted by a violet element. Conveys a light touch but also has good density for the year; better-balanced than the 2013. Firmly tannic but not dry, finishing with a note of menthol." 90 Pts.

James Suckling: "A rich and fresh red with dried berry, milk chocolate, spice and walnut. Full body, velvety tannins and a savory finish. From old vines in Consulta. Drink now or hold." 90 Pts.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate: "From new plantings in Gualtallary, the 2014 Malbec has increased the proportion of fruit coming from this cool place to make it approximately a 50/50 blend of Malbec fruit from Gualtallary and La Consulta, both in the Valle de Uco. There is a big jump in precision and harmony along with more freshness and elegance. The expansive palate has great depth and fruit with very good freshness. This could well be the best vintage of Luca Malbec and I think the best might be yet to come, as the new vineyard matures." 93 Pts.
