A very good wine. Went well with steak. A a classic Syrah but not overpowering. Didn't compete with the food but added the herbs and seasonings we added. We cellered the wine for a couple years before drinking and it was right on point to drink.

Rob liked more than I did, but a lovely wine, esp after decanting & some aerating. Big, bold intensity & taste. Nice finish.

This is a nice wine. It was nice to try but not one I would continue to keep coming back to.

A fantastic syrah from a great producer.

This is evrything it should be; savory, juicy, smoky and delicious. Showing some nice complexity, this is a must try for any wine lover.

Epic. Best wine of the year, hands down. I'm glad I saved it for New Year's Eve with The Mrs. A Syrah that was Amarone-like in its depth and finish. My favourite-to-date from my wine locker. Paired so good with beef short ribs

Imagine yourself on a warm summer’s night, sitting in a lawn chair at sunset in the Red Mountain AVA of Washington. This area is truly magical and designated as an American Viticulture Area for a reason. At sunset the red soil comes to life and has a warm rich glow that lights up the horizon.

This family-owned and operated winery is one that feels like home when you enter the Chateau and it truly is reminiscent of the French architecture. Perhaps it is the influence of Anne-Marie, wife of Tom Hedges who brought her French heritage with her from Champagne, France. Be prepared to be welcomed by friendly staff that are also considered as family, and taste wine that is over 30 years in the making.

The Hedges family saw the potential in this magical place early in the “grape game”. Tom was trading California wine to other companies early in his career but in 1987 his trading took a turn to negotiating sales of Hedges wine for his first clients in Sweden.

In 1988 Anne-Marie and Tom purchased 50 acres in the Red Mountain District of Yakima Valley and dedicated the land to Bordeaux grape varieties. In 1990 Hedges Cellars won a Gold Medal for their Cabernet-Merlot blend in Seattle Washington; which opened their distribution to the USA and put Hedges on the map.

When thinking of their wines, there are a few that stand out and this Syrah is definitely one of them. Daughter Sarah(Hedges-Goedhart) is now leading the winemaking team and her attention to detail is top notch. Her office resembles a chemistry lab and is what one would have wished science class in high school would have been like.  From sampling different blocks within the vineyards to alcohol level and yeast that will best benefit the wine, it is truly hands on perfection.

The Goedhart Syrah is very limited and usually only available from the winery. We were lucky to get our hands on some bottles and are the exclusive retailer for it in Alberta.

This Syrah is big and bold in style due to the warm climate of the region and has flavors of dark fruit, black pepper and spice.

This is a wine that will pair well with savory winter hearty stew, roast beef and lamb.
