Diamond Mountain Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

The 2003 Diamond Mountain Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a late release from the Laird family. The wine demonstrates the benefits of bottle age for experiencing nuanced aromas and complex flavours that blend well with food. Diamond Mountain is one of the most respected of Napa Valley’s distinct mountain appellations. Wines from this high elevation are big and expressive of their rugged place. Sourced from one of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards, this Laird wine shows true character of place. Deep garnet colour, with dark rust on the edges. The wine has a mature aroma with various herbal and floral notes; offering dusty rose, eucalyptus and green olive on the nose. A very smooth entry leads to intense black fruit with some cherry and olive components in the plush middle; raspberry and leather in the finish. This Cabernet Sauvignon is approaching its peak – the wine is very balanced, with good structure and length.

A favourite small vineyard of ours in Napa county.  Fantastic big reds, if you come by them in Calgary highly recommended.

As the gooey bundles were thrown up onto the wagon, little Ken led his mule team to the curing barn. It was...
