Wine Basics — Grape Varietals 101: Carmenere
Wine Basics — Grape Varietals 101: Albariño (aka: Alvarinho)
Having only recently discovered my love of Bubbles (the last 3-4 years or so), I relish the opportunity to try anything new, interesting and off the beaten path! Anyone can drink Louis Roederer (we tasted the Vintage 2005, the Brut and the California Brut in my last WSET 4 Class!), but a Traditional Method Sparkling from Luxembourg?! That's just cool!! I had the pleasure of trying the Brut Rose version of this wine, made with Pinot Noir. On the nose you get the classic cool climate Pinot Noir aromas of red berry and a flinty quality. Overlaying that is a creaminess that suggests the traditional method production. On the Palate, lots of tart red berry, some citrus to cut the rich red fruit and just a hint of that Brioche quality we expect from a Methode Traditionelle sparkling wine. A very happy surprise!! I've paired this with Spolumbos Bratwurst on the grill, steamed potatoes and veggies and garlic bread...Perfect!!! Bubbles never cease to surprise and delight me!! A Favourite style of wine...keep it coming Tracy!!
