Culmina Decora 2014 Riesling

An intensely focused and bright Riesling, Decora is characterized by distinct chalk and grapefruit aromas, accented with delicate spice, stone fruit, and white flower notes. Whetting the appetite with lively acidity, Decora first hits the mouth with wonderful nectarine flavours, followed by an integrated palate of mineral and citrus, and a dry, energizing finish. Food Pairing Suggestions: Jalapeño and chive braised tomatoes, thick-cut smoked bacon, and crème fraiche-laden scrambled eggs; kale, avocado, and grapefruit salad; West Coast oysters on the half-shell; panko-battered BC Halibut tacos with peach, radish, and savoy cabbage slaw; raclette, pork tenderloin, and new potatoes; gruyère and pancetta stuffed chicken breast.

So this is my new favourite vineyard in the Okanagan.  I had the great privilege of visiting this winery in October last year and tasting through their offerings, and will tell you that any wine from Culmina you find - buy it! Drink it! and Love it!! Don Triggs and Pascal Madevon are doing everything right - from selecting the grapes best suited to the land, to their sustainable wine making practices!

This Riesling is the quintessential example of how good Canadian wine can actually be - crisp, fresh and vibrant, with bright citrus and juicy stone fruit, and a light minerality on the finish that cleanses the palate.  I would love to see what this wine tastes like with some age on it - but not sure I can leave it alone long enough!!
