MASI Costasera 2008 Amarone Della Valipolicella Classico DOCG

Proud, majestic, complex and exuberant: this is Masi’s gentle giant. A benchmark for the Amarone category, which, together with Barolo and Brunello, makes up the aristocracy of the Italian wine world. Th e product of Masi’s unrivalled expertise in the appassimento technique, whereby traditional grapes for the Valpolicella Classica area – Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara – are laid out on bamboo racks to concentrate their aromas during the winter months. Very dark ruby red. A nose of baked fruit, plums and cherries. The palate has fruity tastes, with hints of coffee and cocoa. Very well balanced. Excellent as an after-dinner wine, or to go with red meat, game, quails and richly-flavoured dishes. Very good with well-aged cheeses, such as parmesan, pecorino and gorgonzola.

The Wine Blend Trend

Are wine blends a fleeting fancy or are blended wines here to stay?
Wine blends are all around us You could call it “Group Love” – or, more appropriately, “Grape Love.” If you look on the shelves of a liquor store or wine shop, it seems wines are a lot less monogamous when it comes to the grape varieties inside. We have yet to meet a Masi that we don't like!

Tried this at the "Palate Wreckers" class, liked it so much we bought some to take home.

Warm & enveloping, like putting on a cozy sweater.  A bit smoky (cigar) with a great savoury element, we can't wait to pair it with a great weekend dinner.
