Cardinale 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon blend

“The 2010 Cardinale is an intriguing combination of dark fruits and spices. Blending five Napa mountain appellations, it opens with scents of ripe boysenberry, dark cherry, and dragon fruit. On the palate, these fruits meld with holiday spice and Sumatra coffee bean flavors. The wine has a lush, mid-body texture and a lingering finish.” —CHRISTOPHER CARPENTER, Winemaker

2010 was thought to be a difficult vintage to some degree in California but any winemaker worth their salt was able to produce very high quality wines with a ton of finesse.

Cardinale is always one of my favourite Napa Mountain wines; a perennial contender of the king of Napa, it is sourced from each of the four Napa Mountain Districts and just seems to be vibrant in its tones and charismatic in its delivery of the personality of those mountain vineyards.

The 2010 is brash and up front with firm tanninc structure, but its boisterous entrance is long forgotten once you're hit with a silky-smooth slathering of pure, dark, and ripe fruit concentration, and loads of baking spices.  The 14% Merlot offers up some fresh red fruit notes bringing a fleshy feel to the wine.  Beyond the vibrancy of this youthful wine are quiet characteristics of anise, graphite and mountain brush.  It's a visceral experience now and will certainly be hi-fi after some time to allow the tannins to curb their enthusiasm.
