Cane & Fable 395: The Snake, The Eagle & The Farmer 2013

Life's road may sometimes wind unfairly, and serpents may lie in wait for do-gooders and villains alike, but winemakers Curt Schalchlin (Groundwork, Sans Liege) and Andrew Jones (Field Recordings, Fiction, Wonderwall) believe good deeds deserve reward and will always offer grateful grapes to worthy wanderers. Together, they produce Cane & Fable, a collaboration that gives special attention to the craft and story behind each wine. Cane & Fable Merlot has a classic claret character with hints of black tea and blueberries. The silky texture slides gracefully across the palate leaving behind flavours of sweet plumbs and freshly ground spices. An absolute treat to enjoy. Drink now through 2020.

Ahhh...Merlot!! The oft scoffed varietal thanks to "That F@*%&ing Movie!".  This is a big, serious wine, with tons of black fruit and a great balance of oak and minerality to offset the fruity heaviness.  I love the black plum and vanilla and flint finish...it just goes on and on and on! I am having a grilled pork chop tonight with lemon pepper seasoning on it and the steamed veggies...should be a good match!
