Bostavan Bastardo

The Bastardo grape is primarily known as the grape used in Portugal to make Port. In Moldova this hand harvested semi-sweet grape, creates a dark ruby coloured wine. It exhibits aromas of black cherry and violets, ending with a light sweetness on the palate. Bastardo can be enjoyed alone or paired with beef or veal dishes.

I was surprised by this wine a bit. A beautiful deep ruby I was ready for a big deep taste but got a sweet hot that I'm not sure I've had in a red wine. This wine is quite sweet on the palate and would be a nice end of the evening wine. It did pair unusually well with a BBQ steak perhaps because it had a bold and quite spicy rub on it. If you are looking for something different this might be it but do be warned of its intense sweetness!
