Sinfonia 2013 Monastrell Cabernet Sauvignon
This interesting blend of the lesser-known Monastrell (aka Mourvedre, classic to the Rhone Valley in France) variety and international superstar, Cabernet, offers a nose of blueberry preserves, black raspberry and currents, wild violets, licorice, dark chocolate, vanilla and an earthy core with wild herbs and brown spices. The Monastrell lends it a rustic and savoury character on the palate - it has powdery tannins throughout, which adds a chewy texture and rolls through purple fruits and berries, bittersweet chocolate, gravel and toasted spice flavours. It has pleasing acidity, which keeps it bright and is best suited to game meats, slow roasted pork, hearty stews or pastas and firm Spanish cheeses.
