Blasted Church Mixed Blessings 2014 Viognier

This unoaked Viognier has a colour of pale yellow straw with an abundance of peach and orchard fruit aromas on the bouquet. This wine has intense flavours of big ripe stone fruits which last throughout the palate, ending with a nice rich mouthfeel and a long beautiful finish.

I actually give this wine 3.5 stars! As Tracy knows, I am not a fan of "perfumy" wines - which leaves a great many Viogniers by the wayside.  And when I opened this bottle and got a nose full of Lilac and peach blossom I could only think "Oh Oh!!". But it delivers on its promise of big, rich stone fruit flavours. Ripe peach, nectarine with a hint of lemon zest to brighten the oily, unctuous palate, along with a flinty mineral quality and the peach blossom and lilac in subtle presence mid-palate. A beautifully balanced wine, the addition of the small amounts of Ehrenfelser and Pinot Gris keep this wine from becoming too flowery and heavy.  Well done Blasted Church! Once again you deliver and never disappoint!!

Slainte and see you in April!!

This wine had a bright aroma. The taste initially was mineral with an oily mouth feel and fruity finish. I really wanted to love this wine, but it fell a little short.
