Black St. Peter's

Black St. Peters is a curious name thought to be given to Zinfandel during the mid 1800’s where it was sold out of a nursery on Long Island. Its origins at the time much remained a mystery. Elegant perfumed spices and suggestions of fruitcake on the nose. Red cherries, cinnamon and raspberries dance across the palate and persist.

I retried this fun wine last week and was very happy with it. A Zinfandel from Oz is not something you get to try often and this surprised us all.

The wine is dark and brooding with bold tannins, with flavors of leather, cherry and Asian spice. The telltale blueberry aromas of Zin are not as present as you get from CA, but the overall result is a wine that is well-made and tasty as well as reasonably priced.

Let us know what you think.
