Wine Basics — Grape Varietals 101: Malbec
Wine Basics — Grape Varietals 101: Aglianico
So another thing that only a small percentage know about me is that next to Canada, Argentina is my favourite country for wine. Expressive, deep, elegant and long living, there are many wines from Argentina that can give the Big Boys a run for their money! I would argue that Susana Balbo is in that category, and if you are sceptical, try the Expresivo from the Ben Marco line. This 2013 vintage is a glorious blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a wine deep and rich in colour, flavour and elegance. Full, round, silky tannins give this gorgeous fruit driven wine the structure and elegance it needs to prevent becoming a fruit bomb. Black fruit, mocha, tobacco, almond and earth are the primary nose elements, followed by the same and then some on the palate! No green in this wine, no jam...just pure, elegant fruit and oak, creating a perfect harmonious red blend that pairs with any rich, big meal you can contrive...but also superior on its own!!! Slainte!!
