Viña Cobos is the inspired vision of three dreamers who one day undertook the challenge of producing great Argentine red wine that would be on par with the best-known wines of the world. From that moment, Andrea Marchiori, Luis Barraud and Paul Hobbs started to make noble wines of superior quality, placing Malbec and Argentina on stage with the world’s greatest wine producers.

Paul first experienced Argentina in 1989 and was immediately intrigued by the cultural tradition of the country and by the terroir – being pleasantly surprised by its extraordinary potential for growing Malbec and other varietals.

Andrea and Luis, both from Mendoza and each with a strong family heritage linked to viticulture, travelled to California in 1997 to perfect their work as winemakers. There they met Paul, with whom they shared their vision of producing ultra-premium wines in Argentina.

Following this encounter, they decided to create Viña Cobos, and named the winery after the street where the very special Marchiori vineyard is located.

Cobos and Bramare were the first two wines of the new winery. From the moment these two labels were released they showed the high quality that can be achieved in Argentina’s wines, showcasing the grapes from special lots of the Marchiori vineyard along with the commitment of the winemakers who rigorously worked from the vineyard to the production stage.

Since then, wines from Viña Cobos have been recognized by prestigious international media. Today, the winery has an expanded portfolio with successful labels. This success is the result of long and diligent research exploring theterroir and specific lots located within Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley in Mendoza.
