Mt. Boucherie’s award-winning wines reflect the bounty of our 100 percent family-grown grapes, cultivated in Kal and Nirmal Gidda’s soil. Family-owned and operated since 1968, Mt. Boucherie has evolved from a masterful grape grower into one of British Columbia’s premier wineries.
Operated independently of any other wineries in the area, all of our wines proudly bear the BC VQA seal. From the vineyard to the tasting room, our team strongly believes in the production of the highest quality wines.
Celebrating our tenth anniversary in 2011, Mt. Boucherie Family Estate Winery is located in emergent West Kelowna. With a 20,000-square-foot facility for processing, fermentation and bottling, Mt. Boucherie Family Estate is well positioned within the vibrant Okanagan wine industry.
A true family-owned and operated winery, our goal is to produce the finest white, red and dessert wines for every palate. Led by winemaker Jim Faulkner and his team, we produce 25,000 cases of wine annually featuring a total of 21 reds, whites and Icewines. Incredibly food friendly, the variety of Mt. Boucherie wines available ensures there’s a bottle to match any palate, plate and mood.
With a wide range of white and red wines, blended reds and four varietals of Icewine, Mt. Boucherie takes the time to celebrate the grape, creating wines from some lesser-known varietals. Get to know reds Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch, for example. As a change from the usual, try Merlot and Pinot Noir Icewine and explore a number of interesting cold-climate whites and Alsatian varietals including Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Ehrenfelser.
Since 1968 Kal and Nirmal have grown vinifera grapes in the Okanagan, and own 300 acres (121.4 ha) of vineyards located in Cawston, Oliver, Okanagan Falls and West Kelowna.
with Kal managing the Cawston and Okanagan Falls vineyards and Nirmal overseeing the West Kelowna location and also the winery. As a family-owned and operated facility, the brothers take great pride in their commitment to quality from the vineyard through to the bottle.
Quite simply, grape growing is in Kal and Nirmal’s blood. The brothers grew up in the Okanagan as part of our family’s grape growing business. Since their efforts began in 1968, Kal and Nirmal have created one of the Okanagan’s largest family run grape growing operations. In the midst of running our own winery needs, Kal and Nirmal also continue to offer their expertise to other wineries in the Okanagan Valley and provide fruit of consistently excellent quality.
Mt. Boucherie Family Estate Winery originally had a larger family interest until co-founder Sarwan Gidda left the winery to venture out on his own to open Volcanic Hills Vineyard & Cellars, next door to Mt. Boucherie. Now, as separately owned friendly competitors, our Mt. Boucherie team wishes Sarwan all the best in this new challenge.
The Winery’s Namesake
Mt. Boucherie Family Estate Winery is named for West Kelowna’s stunning landmark, a mountain that overlooks the winery’s vineyard from the west.
While today it rises 417 meters (1368 ft) above the surface of Okanagan Lake, Mount Boucherie is estimated to once have towered at 2,000 meters (6,562 ft) or more. Over the past 50 million years, five different glacial periods eroded the volcano and shaped today’s Mount Boucherie.
The mountain at present day is named for an early rancher and pioneer to the region, Isadore Boucherie, who settled the area in the late 1880s. The land behind the mountain is still known as Boucherie Ranch. For stunning valley views, various trails around and to the summit of Mount Boucherie can be accessed from Eain Lamont Community Park.
