De Sousa Vineyards grows 40 acres of wine grapes in our Vinemount Ridge vineyards in the Niagara viticulture region.

Vinemount Ridge is a recognised sub-appellation. As grape-growers, it is our aim to produce the highest quality wine grapes possible. And through our association with Diamond Estates, we see much of the fruit of our vines being made into exceptional wines through the De Sousa Wines brand.

De Sousa Vineyards grows the following varieties:

Pinot Noir
Baco Noir
Marechal Foch
Touriga Nacional
Sauvignon Blanc

The History of De Sousa Vineyards

John De Sousa (Sr.) purchased our vineyard in 1979. He planted several of the grape varieties listed above. In 1990, we got our winery license and opened a full-fledged winery. Our Dois Amigos red wine (hand-crafted of Baco Noir and Marechal Foch) became an instant hit in Ontario LCBO stores, especially in the Portuguese neighbourhoods. Dois Amigos (meaning Two Friends) continues to be a bestseller in its 1.5 Litre and 4 Litre sizes. In about 2000, we launched several premium wines such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot Reserve and Meritage. These wines achieved acclaim and awards. One of our most prized products has been the De Sousa Port-style wine. It is produced from the only Touriga Nacional vines in Ontario. We bury the vines each winter to protect them from frost. Our Port-style wine is legendary.

The De Sousa winery and part of our vineyard acreage was acquired by Diamond Estates in 2008. De Sousa Vineyards is the ongoing legacy of a Third Generation winemaking tradition.
