Craggy Range is a family owned winery established in 1997 named by U.S publication Wine Enthusiast Magazine as New World Winery of the Year in 2014.
Giants Winery is situated in the shadow of the spectacular Te Mata Peak in the premium wine growing area of Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The buildings are aesthetically inspired by the practical farming architecture of New Zealand and the glamour of Bordeaux. The Peabody family in consultation with Architect John Blair and designer Pamela Brown, have created something very special with locally sourced natural materials, circular and barn-like forms, a patchwork of different buildings each with their own purpose, surrounded by lakes, lawns, and of course a vineyard.
The Giants Winery complex and vineyard is home to the Craggy Range Cellar Door and the award winning Terrôir Restaurant. Nestled amongst the vines, the four Craggy Range Vineyard Cottages offer self-contained boutique accommodation.
Our most prized wine, 'Sophia' is made in its own specially designed fermentation and barrel cellar. The Giants winery is a collection of three cellars - a circular cellar called 'Sophia', where Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon are fermented separately in 8000 litre French oak cuves; a temperature controlled secondary fermentation cellar, and an underground maturation cellar, appropriately called 'The Quarry' to commemorate the battles over the best use of the Gimblett Gravels area.
Te Mata Peak is steeped in the legends of the local Maori people, it is a place at once powerful but also serene.
