Who is Boutinot?
Boutinot are grape growers, wine makers, wine importers, wine suppliers and exclusive agents for over 150 of the world’s finest and award winning wine producers. Ultimately, we are winelovers and for those of us at Boutinot it really is...
all about the wine.

Established in 1980, Boutinot have grown to become one of the leading UK based distributors of quality wines from around the world.  Our portfolio consists of over 1400 wines and we sell more than 44 million bottles each year, supplying a huge variety of wines to UK and international retailers, restaurateurs and wholesalers.

Boutinot are very particular about what we do and who we work with to ensure every bottle contains only the best wine sourced from the finest grapes.  Being a producer enables us to control the quality of each wine we craft - an unique advantage Boutinot has over other UK wine distributors.  We are proud to represent esteemed producers such as Emiliana (one of the world’s largest organic wine producers), Vallet Frères (IWSC French Wine Producer of the Year 2012), and Koopmanskloof (one of the largest single estate Fairtrade certified wineries in the world)… just a few of the top brands and producers we have the privilege to work with.

Our commitment to provide great wines at competitive prices has been recognised in many ways over the years.  Notably, at the 2013 Sommelier Wine Awards we were delighted to be named Wine Merchant of the Year for the 5th consecutive year.

Where it all began
The search for a range of interesting, high quality, well priced wines with a story all began back in 1980.  It was inspired by Paul Boutinot, the son of a successful restaurateur, whose passion for food and wine was in his blood.  Disillusioned with the drinkability and inconsistency of too many ‘house wines’ available to the on-trade at this time, Paul headed to France to purchase quality wines for his parent’s restaurant.  Word soon spread as restaurateurs in the north west of England asked Paul to supply wines to their restaurants as well… this was the very beginning of what was to eventually become a thriving and successful international wine business.

The team today
In 2013, Paul stepped aside from the Boutinot business but continues to follow his passion to discover and make exciting new wines.  He can now be found in the vineyards of South Africa, more precisely amongst the vines of his Waterkloof estate in Stellenboch.  Meanwhile, the company continues to operate under the same management structure alongside a staff base of less than 80 employees, including two Masters of Wine (MW) and a Master Sommelier (MS).  We may not be ‘big’ in terms of company size however, as Dennis Whiteley (Boutinot MD) states, “The strength of our business has always been its talented, hardworking and dedicated people who are passionate about the wines we sell and the customers we have the privilege to supply”.

Boutinot - Own production
Not satisfied to simply buy fantastic wines from selected producers around the world, Boutinot has always enjoyed getting its hands dirty when it comes to making wine!  It also allows us to ‘practice what we preach’ regarding our vision and stylistic ideals of how wine should be made.

With the establishment of our own production site in France (just outside of Beaujolais) in 1989, Boutinot rapidly grew production by expanding into South Africa in 1993.  A decade later in 2003, Adria Vini was formed - a joint venture winemaking project owned by Boutinot and Araldica Vini Piemontes, one of Italy’s most dynamic co-operatives.  Our passion for France and in particular the Rhône, led us to Carainne where we purchased vineyards, a winery and cellar in 2010 (christened Boutinot Rhône).  We also have winemaking partnerships in Spain, plus developments in the New World including Chile and Australia.

Just Wine partners with the finest bars, restaurants, wineries and retailers from around the world!
