Red Red Wine – Neil Diamond / UB40

Brief Song History

Originally written and performed by Neil Diamond in 1967, the song Red Red Wine is about forgetting life’s woes with a bottle of red wine. After numerous covers, UB40 recorded the best-known reggae-theme version of Red Red Wine in 1983. The UB40 version topped billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Later, Neil Diamond and UB40 performed a UB40-inspired version of the song, while on tour.

Lyrics – Red Red Wine (Song by Neil Diamond / UB40)

Red, red wine
Goes to my head
Makes me forget that I
Still need her so

Red, red wine
It’s up to you
All I can do, I’ve done
Memories won’t go
Memories won’t go

I’d have sworn
That with time
Thoughts of you would leave my head
I was wrong
Now I find
Just one thing makes me forget

[chorus] Red Red Wine

Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don’t let me be alone
It’s tearin’ apart
My blue, blue heart

I’d have sworn
That with time
Thoughts of you would leave my head
I was wrong
Now I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don’t let me be alone
It’s tearin’ apart
My blue, blue heart

Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don’t let me be alone
It’s tearin’ apart
My blue, blue heart
