Your Guide to 4 Brand New Official Wine regions in British Columbia (BC)
The land mass and diversity of terroir in BC is large enough to be broken down into several distinct wine appellations. Until recently, not every winery fell into an official BC wine region, also known as a Geographical Indication (GI). Previously, there were only 5 official wine regions in British Columbia: Vancouver Island, Gulf Islands, Okanagan Valley, Similkameen Valley and Fraser Valley. Now there are four new official wine regions in BC that categorize the unique viticulture in each of those areas. They are: Thompson Valley, Shuswap, Lilooet and the Kootenays. The creation of these new GIs reflects the diversity found in BC wine country.
