A Spanish-style restaurant located in the heart of Calgary’s downtown, Ox Bar De Tapas is known for its Spanish family-style share dishes and their wide range of wines which can be paired beautifully with any of their dishes. Two of their specials that popped out for us were Tuesdays with 25% off entire bill and
Wednesdays which feature 1/2 price bottles of wine!
The patatas bravas and crispy pork belly dishes are our personal favourites, and we especially enjoyed those dishes with the 2017 Bhilar La Grimas.
If diversity in selection is what you want, look no further than Winebar Kensington. With hundreds of bottles of wine from across the globe, as well as an ever-changing tapas menu, no dining experience will be the same at this wine and tapas spot.
Based on their current offerings, we recommend building your own charcuterie board with a bottle of the Priest Ranch 2016 Grenache Blanc.
Whether you’re looking to unwind with a drink after work or if you’re trying to find a late-night hangout, Lulu Bar is the place to go. Their Asian and Polynesian inspired dishes, paired with your choice of wine or cocktail, make for the ultimate experience on 17th Avenue in Calgary.
Our recommendations include the Noblaie 55 Cabernet Franc along with the Mochiko Fried Chicken and the French Omelette.
Frenchie Wine Bar, located through the UNA Takeaway entrance and behind Bread and Circus Trattoria on Calgary’s 17th Avenue, is a small restaurant known for its wine selection and its cheese fondue. Fondues are half off on Wednesdays and Sundays, hint hint.
The Fougeray de Beauclair Pinot Noir and the 4-Maggi Fondue were the perfect match for us at JustWine, and we’ve got a feeling it might be the one for you too.
One of the more obvious inclusions on this list, Next Door Wine Bar & Tapas is known for, you guessed it, wine and tapas pairings. With 100% locally sourced ingredients in their food and a wide array of wines from across the world to pair with these dishes, Next Door Wine Bar & Tapas offers one of the best experiences to try in Calgary.
The Gnocchi Poutine and Mussels & Chorizo are our favourite dishes, while the Alpha Zeta Ripasso served as a worthy compliment to the meal.
Pigeonhole is a local wine and snack bar on 17th avenue, and falls under the category of “dive bar chic”. They offer a variety of share plate options, as well as many different wines to sample!
My favourites included the Arctic Char Larb and Birgit Braunstein Pinot Blanc, but everything looked amazing. Check them out!
